Art after 1960 could be characterized as an irreversible explosion, one that challenged outdated modalities and opened limitless potential for current artistic game play. We have now experienced nearly 50 years of deconstruction and re-interpretation, yet despite this, there remains a need amongst audiences for art which is exquisite, sensual and emphatic. I see this condition as an emerging gap between, primal art and idea art.

So, how does one reconcile the gap between that which is primal and that which purely intellectual? This has been the central objective of my practice over the past few years and with it, the challenge of promoting the relevance of figurative painting within contemporary art.

I use snapshots of everyday life. For me, the act of making pictures also involves exploring the seductive and transformative qualities of the medium, whether it is paint, charcoal or water colour. My aim is to push the envelope in terms of pictorial consciousness and actuality. Through my art, I'd like to invite everyone into a state of bemused contemplation on what exists in reality and how our relationship to things can come to have meaning.
